Previous news:

Some of the group have recently (Oct 2014) been involved in a trip to see the work of the Isaiah Trust in Kisumu, Kenya.  Below are details of their adventures.

Safely Home!

After 18 months of fundraising and preparing for the trip the group left Ackworth on 23rd of October 2014 for a 24 hour journey to Kibos, a town north-east of Kisumu, Kenya's third largest city.

Whilst in Kenya, the boys and staff worked with the Isaiah Trust, a Christian charity working to help some of Kenya's most desperate children find a new beginning.  The boys, Kenyan and British, enjoyed a variety of activities together which included football, parachute games and camping.

The group from Ackworth also helped the Trust in a very practical way by providing funds to purchase 2 x 5000 litre water tanks, planting 21 banana trees and helping erect a huge greenhouse so the Trust can grow food all year round not just during Kenya's rainy season.  Any surplus fruit and vegetables grown can be sold to provide an income for the Trust.

After a week spent with the Isaiah Trust, the group from Ackworth enjoyed a 36 hour safari in the Masai Mara before returning home on Sunday 2nd November.

It is hoped that this trip will be the beginning of a long term relationship between the Isaiah Trust and 1st Ackworth Boys' Brigade so that every boy who progresses through the company will have the chance to experience a similar trip.

The members of the Kenya 2014 team acknowledge and are hugely grateful for all the support they have received from so many different directions.

Further details about our trip can be found on our blog  - and on  -  a blog written by Tim Broughton, co-founder of the Isaiah Trust.

How it all began!

Following our Lent Challenge in 2013 where we raised funds for the Isaiah Trust (details of their work can be found here) 7 members of the 1st Ackworth Boys' Brigade Company will visit the Trust in Kisumu, Kenya later this year.

Thanks to the amazing support of our family, friends. church friends and local groups and businesses over the last year we have steadily added to our fundraising total for our trip.

Our flights have been booked and we are all excited as plans begin to take shape.  Our thoughts now turn to the projects that we will be involved with during our visit.

January 2014

A meeting between Colin and Tim Broughton, one of the founders of the Trust, discussed many kinds of projects - crafts, sport, music - we shall get involved with all of these.  What is really needed, however, is for a water tank to be installed.  This will provide irrigation for the Trust's fields and running water to one of the houses.  Unfortunately, funds are not available for this at present.  So ... ... ...

Our aim now is to raise the £1500 required for the water tank and associated equipment and for us then to install this during our visit.  We aim to dig the base, mix and lay the concrete, lay a plinth to raise the tank above ground level, dig the trenches for the irrigation pipework, lay the pipes and plumb the pipework to the house.

Once again the tremendous support of friends and family has meant that we now have the £1500 to provide the water tank.  We are looking forward to helping install this during our trip.
